Firbirds victorious over colorado 3-2
LOVELAND, CO. – The Eagles left-winger Jere Innala and forward Jason Polin would both find the back of the net but would still be met with defeat over the Firebirds three goals. Both teams would get 23 shots on goal and would ultimately be a loss in the net for Colorado.
Both Colorado and Coachella Valley would look to get a goal on the board but would fall short in the first period. The Eagles outshot the Firebirds 8-4 and would go into the second stanza 0-0.
Colorado would capitalize on a powerplay 4:27 into the middle frame with left-winger Jere Innala shooting one in from the bottom of the right-wing circle with an assist from defenseman Jacob MacDonald and center Jayson Megna to bring the score to 1-0.
The Firebirds would respond with a goal of their own when forward Lleyton Roed got the puck past Eagles goalie Trent Miner from the slot to even out the score 1-1 with 10:10 left in the period.
Coachella Valley would light the lamp for the second time two minutes later with forward Jagger Firkus notching one in from the top of the crease to give them a 2-1 advantage.
With 4:22 left in the period, the Firebirds would find the back of the net again courtesy of forward John Hayden from the top of the crease to end the second 3-1.
Looking to gain an extra attacker the Eagles would pull Miner and benefit from the decision when forward Jason Polin slid one past Coachella Valley’s goalie Nikke Kokko with 1:12 left in the competition.
The game would end 3-2 with the Firebirds victory over Colorado.
